► why

Why join the event and write to your MP?

• Your MPs are key representatives at a national level and can act on your behalf.

• It’s MPs that will make the key decision on the lifting of the fee cap and voting through changes to the budget that will impact on EMA in coming weeks.

• The intervention or support of an MP can therefore make or break the campaign.

• MPs are acutely sensitive to the concerns of their electorate, especially where they have small majorities.

• The ‘student vote’ is a significant and decisive factor in many constituencies.

• The “parent” and “professional” votes are critical too.

• Over half (55%) of MPs say “building a relationship with 10 key MPs” is the most effective way to spend your limited resources of time or money for lobbying efforts.

• Additionally, 45% of MPs advise “encouraging the public to lobby their MP” and over a third (36%) say “building a relationship with a relevant Select Committee and/or All Party Parliamentary Groups”.

• Some 84% of MPs agree that getting “lots of letters from constituents” can take a campaign from just one of many to one they listen to.
