► Cycle Training For Commuters - Summer Programme

• Want to commute to work but need more confidence?
• Don’t feel safe in traffic?
• Self-taught and not sure you are doing things right?
• Need to brush up on your skills?

 

 

 

 

 

The University is offering a 2 Stage Practical Cycle Training Programme this summer:


Stage 1: A 2 hour small group training session covering essential cycle handling and on-road skills;


Stage 2: One-one coaching and guidance on a road journey eg your route to work from home.


The Programme is based on the National Cycling Standards is being run by qualified National Standards Instructors.
Because of the high Instructor/Participant ratio, places are limited to 15, so early booking is advised.


STAGE 1


DATES AND TIMES.
Choose from the following:
• Lunchtime session: Wednesday 13 July: 12pm – 2pm
• Evening session: Thursday 14 July: 5pm – 7pm
• Weekend session: Saturday 16 July: 10am – 12pm


VENUE
All sessions will start from Student Central – Union Mall (ground floor). Bicycles can be parked in the Student Union locked cycle cage prior to and after the session – Students Union reception will give you details on access.
The session will start in a traffic-free area, and progress to quiet roads.


COST AND HOW TO BOOK
The cost of this course is usually £40 but is being offered this time at a subsidised rate of just £10.
To book a place, please e-mail DD4training@gmail.com, giving the date you wish to attend.
Before the session, please drop the application form, together with the payment (cash - or cheque made out to 'UBU'), in to the Students' Union Reception in Student Central - or if this is not possible, bring them with you to the session.
Payment will only be refunded if the session does not run. However, if you cancel within 24 hours of the course your place can be transferred to a future session.
Remember –only 15 places! Don’t miss out!


WHAT YOU NEED
A bike in roadworthy condition.


COURSE CONTENT
1. Bicycle handling skills: starting, manoeuvring, stopping, looking behind, signalling.
2. Correct procedure and positioning on the road at junctions and other road obstacles.
The course aims to cover Levels 1 & 2 of the National Cycling Standards. For full details visit

STAGE 2


Participants who successfully complete Stage 1, and would like to put their skills into practice, can progress to Stage 2 where they will be given 1:1 coaching on their own road journey. This could include:
• Discussion of the optimum route;
• One-one support along the route;
• Use of HelmetCam video to analyse traffic conditions along the route.
• Personal feedback and recommendations.
Dates and Times and Route will be negotiated to suit the participant.


COST


The cost of this 1:1 tuition would normally cost £120, but on this occasion it is being offered at a heavily subsidised rate of just £20.
