► How safe is your bicycle!?
Cycle re Cycle, UBUG and the University Cycling Club have been doing great work to increase the number of cyclists on Campus but sadly there has been a spate of thefts. Do you lock your bike (including wheels) to a solid point when you are not using it?? Do you use a quality or cheap bike lock, the thicker the chain the better? There is no need to go overboard locking your bike.
…Seriously… Experts recommend the use of two D type locks. Anything that is held on with ‘quick release’ is particularly vulnerable!
The more secure your bike is the better.

N.B The helmet in the above picture is not safe! If using a post similar to the above please ensure that the D lock can not simply be lifted over the top of it!
But what can you do if you’re bicycle is stolen?! Cycle re Cycle have been working with Chris Wilson UBUG & Phil Lickley, UBU Media and Marketing Co-ordinator to help publish stolen bikes. Firstly from 1st December Cycle re Cycle will take a photograph of every bike that it sells and keep this on record. If your bike is stolen e-mail info@crank-it-up.org.uk telling them your bike has been stolen, what date, time, make & model it is (so as we can trace it). Cycle re Cycle will then pass this information, and a picture of the bike on to Phil Lickley who will put an article in the Uni mag and on the UBU’s “Stolen Bike “ web page. Cycle re Cycle will also produce some poster’s showing the bike and where/when it was stolen passing them on to Phil so as they can be displayed about the Campus.
A good selection of bicycle locks is available from Cycle re Cycle at their shop down the side of Student Central.
