► Green Things the Union Does

Sound impact- sound impact is a nussl award sceme which the union subscribes to where we go for awards to do with our etical environmental and sustainlable things we do for example last year we won a bronze award though this year were trying for that little bit higher

Uboutique- our second hand store which has a wide selection of goods from clothes to cutlery. Runby students for students

Recycling- Recycling as much as possible, as part of this the union offices do not have bin’s in them which forces us to recycle all waste in our offices this includes everything from plastic bottles to all the waste paper we go through on a regular basis. Its not only our offices that recycles but the bar and shop as well for instance all thouse glass bottles that the union bars go through every day are recycled in our own separate bins from the university recycling scheme, not only glass is recycled but also cans, paper, plastics such as straws and food which is composted

Paper reduction- the union tries to stay clean by reducing the amount of paper the union uses we do this for example by reusing old unused election ballot papers as notebooks for everyday document printing we use used paper by printing on the reverse side. All off our printers are automatically set to print on both sides for when printing large document to save paper

One large part of being green is by volunteering with local groups. So we run UCAN a volunteering program for staff and students of the university, as well as staff volute ring days

Union officers- we are the only union in the country which has a full time sabbatical offices devoted to the environment there our ethics environment and welfare office

Our Newspaper the Bradford student is all produced with recycled paper

As many off our material we produce from students for instance our handbook we have produced on recycled paper as well as when possible having printed with natural inks.

We have a wide range of policy that governs us which is produced and passed by union council and general meetings, these policy cover a wide range of issues to do with the union and the wider world there are many that govern us to have a ethical buying policy from not buying Bacardi rum to how we decide if you are rebursed for travel if you have not been environmentally friendly

Entertainments flyering- to reduce the amount of flyering we do to students the entertainments department have gone through a process of getting more people to sign up to our weekly telegram to make sure students get all they need to know with out giving them lots of wasted paper.

Union shop uses no new plastic bags if you ask for a bag they will give you a second hand bag or one of the union cotton shoulder bags
