► Food

Food- there are plenty of ways of being good for the enviroment by what you eat and also with what you can do with the food that you leave behind. one of the most inportant things to do is eat the amount that you need i.e. not over buy and then end up having to through stuff away

Less Prawns

By the time a prawn makes it to your sarnie, there's a good chance it's been on a cruise to the Far East to be hand-peeled, deep frozen for a month and shipped back. And the trawler that caught it coughs up more than 20 times as much greenhouse gas in just over a week than a small diesel car does in a whole year.

Farmed prawns put paid to the trawling but destroy valuable CO2-soaking-up mangroves. Small, cold-water prawns may be a less-bad option than tropical 'tigers', but neither variety is a clear choice for the carbon-conscious.

That said, some near-shore seafoods (like clam, crab and lobster) can be harvested without trawlers, requiring relatively little energy. Could it be time to broaden your palate?

Composting

composting is good for many reasons it uses that waste food instead of putting it in landfill, its also a very good byproduct for using in your own gardening the union uses a wormarry from Wiggly Wigglers

Cutting down on the amount of meat and dairy

Livestock produce more greenhouse gases than all the world's transport combined, with beef production singled out by a recent UN report as a particular enemy at the gate. Why? Because cattle belch. Methane is a greenhouse gas more than 20 times worse for climate change than CO2emissions and cattle are full of it. There are 1.5 billion cattle and buffalo worldwide, each producing more greenhouse gas in a day than the average 4x4.

Grow your own food

How about having a go at growing some of your own food using things such as grow bags which you could get from some of the local outlets
